About Château Angélus
The story of Château Angélus begins in 1782 when Jean de Boüard de Laforest settled in Saint-Émilion, marking the family's Bordeaux legacy. The estate expanded significantly in the early 20th century when Maurice de Boüard de Laforest added a 3-hectare parcel named Angélus in 1920.
The vineyard, spanning 20 hectares, lies on south-facing slopes, with upper sections planted on clay-limestone soils and lower sections on clay-sand-limestone. Château Angélus rose to prominence under Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, who transformed the estate after taking charge in 1985. His dedication and innovative techniques led to its promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé A in 2012. Today, the estate is managed by Hubert's daughter, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, continuing the family tradition.
Focus on Saint-Émilion Appellation
Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site, covers 5,331 hectares of vines steeped in history dating back to Roman times. The appellation is divided into three geological sections:
the limestone plateau near the town, offering chalky and clayey siliceous soils
the northwest corner extending toward Pomerol, characterized by sandy layers over clay
the southern section near the Dordogne River, with sandy soils and alluvial gravel deposits
Merlot reigns supreme in Saint-Émilion, supported by Cabernet Franc and smaller proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon.
2007 Saint-Émilion, Château Angélus: A Vintage of Surprising Elegance
The 2007 vintage from Chateau Angélus presents an expressive nose of red and black fruits, graphite, cedar, and floral scents. The unctuous mouthfeel reveals a silky structure, fine tension, and great precision. Multi-layered flavours of dark cherry, strawberry, roasted coffee, liquorice, and hints of blood orange are liberally laced with mineral notes, supported by well-judged acidity and resolved tannins.
Despite a challenging growing season with cool, wet weather in early summer, fine conditions in September allowed satisfactory ripening. Written off upon release due to high en-primeur prices, the 2007 vintage now reveals soft, supple textures and classic character. Château Angélus delivered a wine with excellent balance, density, and amazing fruit purity, exuding crisp energy and charm. A delightful surprise from a discounted vintage.
Blend of 62% merlot and 38% cabernet franc.

This sensational wine showcases majestic poise and remarkable balance. Although still at the start of its drinking window, its richness and complexity promise immense potential. The blend of youthful vigour and captivating depth bodes well for future grandeur. Give it a few more years, and it will undoubtedly become a phenomenal wine.

While not a blockbuster vintage, the 2014 Angélus showcases remarkable balance, succulence, and freshness.
